The Clean Up tool in Photos, mail and notification summaries, helpful writing tools, a more flexible and natural-sounding Siri, and many other Apple Intelligence features are being released in the United States, with more English-language support to follow later this year.
Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system that leverages generative models and individual context to provide highly relevant and useful intelligence, will begin rolling out next month with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, with additional features to follow in the upcoming months, the company announced. Additionally, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 16 lineup, which is the most sophisticated and powerful iPhone models ever thanks to the faster, more efficient A18 and A18 Pro chips and was designed from the ground up for Apple Intelligence.
In December, Apple Intelligence will swiftly expand to include localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom after initially launching in U.S. English. French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), and other languages will be added to Apple Intelligence over the course of the upcoming year.
Deeply ingrained in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple Intelligence uses the power of Apple silicon to comprehend and produce language and images, take action across apps, and use personal context to speed up and simplify daily tasks while safeguarding user security and privacy. Private Cloud Compute provides the flexibility and scalability of computational capacity between on-device processing and larger, server-based models that run on specialized Apple silicon servers. Many of the models that drive Apple Intelligence operate entirely on devices. Next month will see the release of the first set of Apple Intelligence features, which will offer users enjoyable, simple, intuitive, and specially crafted experiences that enable them to accomplish the tasks that are most important to them.
Writing Tools allows users to edit, proofread, and summarize text almost anywhere they write, including in third-party apps, Mail, Notes, and Pages.
Users can now make the movies they want to watch by just typing a description into Photos' Memories feature. Additionally, specific photos can be found using natural language, and video searches become more effective when specific moments in clips can be found. Without inadvertently changing the subject of the picture, the new Clean Up tool can locate and eliminate distracting elements from the background of a picture.
Users can record, transcribe, and summarize audio in the Notes and Phone apps. Participants are automatically alerted when a recording is started during a call in the Phone app, and Apple Intelligence also creates a summary at the conclusion of the call to aid in remembering important details.
With features like Priority Messages in Mail, which recognizes the content of emails and surfaces time-sensitive messages, Reduce Interruptions, a new Focus that surfaces only the notifications that might need immediate attention, and summarized notifications across apps, Apple Intelligence helps users prioritize and stay in the moment. Summaries highlight each email's most crucial details rather than just skimming the first few lines across a user's inbox. In order to guarantee that all questions are addressed, Smart Reply in Mail identifies questions in emails and offers users suggestions for a prompt response.
Siri gets more integrated into the system experience, more flexible, and more natural. It features a sleek, glowing light that encircles the screen's edge when it's in CarPlay, iPhone, or iPad mode. Siri can be conveniently accessed while working on a Mac by placing it anywhere on the desktop. On the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, users can type to Siri at any time and seamlessly transition between text and voice while using Siri to speed up daily tasks. With improved language comprehension skills, Siri can keep context across requests and follow along when users fumble with their words. Additionally, Siri can now respond to thousands of inquiries concerning the settings and features of Apple devices thanks to its deep product knowledge. Users can learn how to share a Wi-Fi password with ease and how to record their screen.
Later this year and in the months that follow, more Apple Intelligence features will be released. Users will be able to quickly create amusing images with Image Playground. By transforming rough sketches into charming images, Image Wand will enhance the visual appeal of notes. The ability to create unique Genmoji by just typing a description or by choosing a picture of a friend or relative will elevate emoji to a whole new level. With the ability to use a user's unique context to provide intelligence that is specific to them, Siri will be even more powerful. Along with taking hundreds of new actions in and across Apple and third-party apps, it will also become aware of the screen. Additionally, users can choose to access ChatGPT's extensive knowledge of the world from multiple experiences with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. This eliminates the need for users to switch between tools and gives them access to ChatGPT's expertise as well as its ability to understand images and documents.
Apple Intelligence is built with user privacy protection in mind. On-device processing is a fundamental component of Apple Intelligence, and many of the models that drive it are fully on-device. Private Cloud Compute expands the privacy and security of Apple devices into the cloud to unlock even more intelligence, enabling the execution of more complex requests that demand more processing power. A significant advancement in server-based intelligence is represented by Private Cloud Compute. Users' data is never saved or shared with Apple when they use Private Cloud Compute; it is only used to complete their requests. To continuously confirm this privacy promise, independent experts can and already do examine the code that runs on Apple silicon servers.
Moreover, privacy safeguards are in place for users who decide to use Writing Tools or Siri to access ChatGPT; OpenAI won't save requests, and users' IP addresses are hidden. Without creating an account, users can access ChatGPT for free. Those who choose to connect their account are subject to ChatGPT's data-use policies.
Accessibility
There will be a free software update for Apple Intelligence. As part of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, the initial set of Apple Intelligence features will be made available in beta next month.
